The Houston Skyline Rotarians decided to throw a old car rally in the parking lot at a local hangout. Since I was in the area anyway for a book sale, and I have friends in the club, I decided to drop by.

The Commemorative Air Force exists to preserve and exhibit "warbirds" - military aircraft used during the Second World War. These good folks, at their own considerable expense (coupled with heavy fundraising), acquire, restore, maintain, and fly examples of some of the most significant historic aircraft. And, every so often, they fly them into an airfield somewhere and park them for a day or two so interested members of the public can come take a look (and, if they can afford the fare, a ride). I can't afford the airfare, sadly, but I will surely come look at them and take pictures and learn things. And I'm more than happy to share what I learn.

"Sunday Streets" is a Houston project to encourage residents to be more physically active (and interactive.) A section of a major street (Inner Westheimer, here) is closed to automobiles for several hours on Sunday, allowing pedestrians and human-powered vehicles to use the street freely. Shops in the area run special deals and food trucks congregate. The effect is almost block party, but perhaps a bit more commercial.

I have friends who are part of (in fact, most of) one of the LULAC councils here, so when they threw a fun run (imagine herding cats through the park), SOMEONE had to shoot them. They started with a Loteria theme, so a group came as the characters / cards from the game.

We don't have winter, so they can do this.
